Tuesday Night COOP 2-13...Recon Photos Released & Orders Added!!

Post by WWGeezer » Sat Feb 10, 2018 11:32 am

Enough Chatter about strategy....Craven gets the final call for Tuesday....but the Brass did cut you guys a break. Salvaged a few recon images from last weeks sortie. Not super clear but should help folks know what they are up against. Looks like a few AAA posts were destroyed but if they rebuild guessing the gunners will be rookies.

Also, we lost enough aircraft that they shuttled over a few Bf109 F2's and F4's.

Good Luck Gents!

PS: The fancy pants heads up digital display turned off, but you can still see your plane on the map.

My only request is to have Gold flight come into the factory from the ocean side and hook north after run to avoid AA around airfield, Other then that should be the same as last week.
A flight of escorts could fly ahead and tangle with the spits that jumped us over the target.(just a thought)

Red Flight spawns in first so they may takeoff together, JG1 pilots escort Red Flight, and Red Flight's Jabo aircraft locate/attack AAA prior to Gold/Blue Flights reaching the primary target.

Whispers set up between Flight Leads to reduce COMM chatter.

I'll set up a TS channel for JG1, Likely have them escort Red in and address the enemy fighters while we do the AA business.

Turn off the HUD, leave the compass though.

Leads will need to set up another button to switch to JG1 TS channel, leads already have channel switch buttons to Red, Blue and Gold set up.

TS channel for JG1 in place

I wonder whether it might make sense for Gold flight to head in first, from the north, before the enemy has woken up, so to speak. Red and Blue flights could be ready near to engage any fighter resistance and also attack AAA and other ground targets of opportunity as Gold begins the target run.

It seems to me that if Red flight heads in first, the bombers are flying into a hornet's nest that's been stirred already, and they don't have a lot of leeway since the targets are where they are and so that's where they have to fly.

Oh, and add the 109-F2 and/or the 109-F4... these are available as stock AC from Stalingrad and Moscow. The G4 in the mission is available only for those who've purchased Kuban - I'd remove the G4 so we can rely on the F versions. The 109-E7 that Blue had to use could not keep pace with the 110s we were escorting without overheating.

Hmm, if the four bombers go in first all of the anti-aircraft guns located in and around the target will be shooting at them, filling the skies with Flak, and chances are good the gunners may run out of ammo prior to a Jabo attack.* :t_up:

As Gold Flight completes its bomb run, Blue Flight's aces can WTD enemy aircraft towards the sea and away from the factory, leaving Red Flight's escorting JG1 pilots to provide air cover over the bombed targeted and nearby airstrip while Red's Jabo pilots conduct an easy-peasy run on the now low on ammo anti-aircraft guns.

Good plan! I like it, Boss. :)

* I just find it hard to believe that evil/very-sneaky mission designers would forget to place "triggers" to awaken AAA prior to enemy aircraft reaching the target.

AA doesn’t run low on ammo. And heading into a target where AA is not dead yet and enemy fighters have had time to take off and engage but not not be eliminated isn’t exactly a recipe for success, as our first sortie demonstrated last week. I was suggesting we either make a run with the element of surprise, or perhaps wait until enemy forces have been reduced more, rather then head into the thick of it significantly after the enemy have been alerted but before they’ve been dealt much damage. Just a thought. We’ve made lots of sorties against targets without much support and little or no losses. Last week, three out of four planes were downed, two before they could engage any targets.

AAA doesn't run out of ammo? Holy-Moly! Wish my Jabo-tasked fighter had that mission feature available.

You do present very good points, Griphos. Unsure if an attack can be accomplished by surprise. It would be cool if it could be done though. Besides, I was overly influenced by the easy-peasy part for Jabo pilots versus having to locate/bomb anti-aircraft guns, fight enemy aircraft, dodge exploding bombs and avoid friendlies.

Do you think two sorties -- one against the airstrip and the other against the factory -- is doable? Just a thought.

I don’t remember saying any job was easy or hard. Just that ground targets are fixed.

Just a thought,
Maybe first run in 110s come in low, attack targets and strafe AAA implacments.
Run down the ea and AAA, then bring in the big bombers to finish factory.

At least the 110s can fight back and help the jabos clear the area ahead of the main bombing runs.

Orders added, very similar to last week's approach, major difference;

Red flight with JG1 as escort will head out minimum 5 minutes prior to Gold & Blue departure. That should give us enough time to stir things up. If Red survives and clears the factory complex, we'll move onto the airfield and have a go at the base AA.

Second change, Blue flight will move into target area ahead of the bombers when 5 minutes from target, give yourselves a chance to kill everything or drag them away from the factory.

For Griph & Gold

Option, if the previous flights have not managed to clear out the AA and EA, you have the option to divert and hit the Objective C ships, or even, stand off and wait for the second wave of suicidal nuts from Red, Blue and JG1 to come back for a return engagement.

Don't know what other Jabo pilots are wearing this Tuesday, but I'm wearing this:

Well, I'll be damned. You're correct Griphos!

It appears that Red Flight's parrot mascot selected the wrong uniform for the photo shoot and the Red Flight pilots were too drunk to notice while celebrating its Flight Lead's promotion to Supreme Mission Commander.

We extend our sincere apologies for the poop stains. As Gold Flight pilots are very much aware, their "very pretty" uniform must be worn in the nude because of its heat retention characteristics and its rigid outer shell design makes it difficult to reach the butt hatch's open/close buttons while standing and impossible to operate when sitting.

This is the one worn by Red Flight Jabo pilots.
Red Flight Jabo Upscaled Uniform.jpg

Constructed of highly flexible and bullet resistant material, body heat is efficiently dispensed through microscopic openings throughout the uniform. Notice the Red, leathered Germanic cross covering the breastplate. Scary stuff! The ivory studded accents serve as emergency GPS emitters, and the light-weight, state-of-the-art horn attachments are designed to meld into our aircrafts headrests and provide exceptional head stability during high-G combat maneuvers.

Oh, by-the-way, with this trim and highly flexible uniform our Jobo pilots will no longer need to wear an XXXXL sized Mae West accessory; the emergency flotation device, with beer holder, is built into the belt. :joe_cool:
