  1. Have been in an email conversation with Carl, trying to catch up. Seems they're more in DCS, not FC, nowadays. I'm yet to manage to catch his crew on Teamspeak. More as things progress.
  2. So, I've been struggling with a Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X V2 for a while now. I just never seem to be able to keep my nose on the target at any airspeed. Lots of figure eighting. Played around with curves. Doesn't seem to have trim. Rudder via twisting works well though. Creaks a bit. What is my next step? I want to up my game and not give up on playing with a joystick. Frustrated and ready to try something new. Budget - USD $100-200. All suggestions welcome.
  3. Sorry I couldn't make it either. Ended up being called out on a job that took most of the day. Bummer that the numbers were too low.
  4. Looking back at Their Finest Hour and I found this: Watch from 2min mark. Shocking.
  5. Connecting with some local flyers may be of interest. Contact info would be greatly appreciated. Yep. I reckon my first few flight sim was Falcon (1987), then Their Finest Hour 1989, and Chuck Yeager's Air Combat (1991), and so many other games since then. I never really learned to fly properly. Maybe I never will, but enjoying the wind, and castor oil in my hair, and eyes.
  6. I'm on at the moment. Tooling around the tracking. Installing Teamspeak now. Discord not a thing for you blokes?
  7. Lag isn't typically a problem. I've played for years on US servers (WoT, WoT Blitz, War Thunder) and have competitive stats. Used to have a Flightstick, a long time ago. Will see if my current stick has any way to tweak this. Perhaps I just accept the extra realism. I reckon I'd like to have a few 2 player session first. I have so much to learn and practice. Starting go get more comfortable in the Spad though. Got my rejection from 3rd Pursuit Group USAS. For the obvious reason - not tracking/vr. Totally understandable of them and issue for me. I just set up a basic head tracking system comprised of: AITrack/opentrack/DroidCam with a spare iPhone. It works surprisingly well. I plan to DIY a basic hardware head tracking system using a PS3 Eye Camera. Lots of good tutes on YouTube. Then perhaps I'll fork out on Oculus Quest 2, or whatever's current. I have my eye on an RTX 3060 12GB gaming rig to finally go 4K. Will need a new display. I'm not strapped for cash but also can't justify throwing money around, to maintain the home life that I value. Yes above gaming;)
  8. Just took the Albatros DVa for a quick mission. Seems a little underpowered up against the Spad XIII but handling is much more forgiving. Seems to outturn the Spad but can't pursue it flat or in a climb. Less stressful to fly.
  9. What is the typical flight time to complete this type of mission? Trying to work out if I can make the time for my first attempt at flying with you folks.
  10. This all sounds good to me. I only have Flying Circus Vol. 1 so far. WWI for now. Casual is fine and excluded topics work for me. I'm a generous player and really enjoy working with my teammates. Sadly no VR or Track IR yet. Eventually. Running Windows on my trusty Mac Pro 2010 (1TB SSD, 32GB, AMD RX560). It does the job for now. Looking out for a good deal on a gaming rig with an RTX 3060 12GB, or better. I also have a Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X V2. Budget but decent. I'd seen IL-2 Sturmovik for some time but never took the time to understand that it's actually a series. Confusing name. Tried RoF and realised that I had a long way to go. I've taken the plunge with FC and will almost certainly add more 1C games to my library. It took a couple of goes but I eventually got a Spad XIII and DR.1 off the ground and into AI combat. Managed to shoot down a couple of drones and even landed safely a few times. That felt like progress. The continual forward pressure on the stick with the Spad/DR.1 takes a bit of getting used to. Some help with my joystick setup, and additional controls would be greatly appreciated. I found Wing Walkers in my search for a WWI virtual squadron. Applied to 3rd Pursuit Group USAS but saw no response to my application for a week. Found you, the mascot name, and posted here.
  11. Sandman, thanks for the welcome. I'm in Adelaide, South Australia, and a noob at realistic flying in these old crates. I really want to fly in a cooperative squadron that takes survival in the air somewhat seriously. You just don't get this in War Thunder, most of the time. The time zone may present problems for me me at I'm currently GMT +10.5, which means an 11:30am start on Monday. I work for myself so will see about making a little stick time. Haven't used TeamSpeak for years now but willing to take some time off Discord for this;) Any chance of a move to Discord?
  12. I've also been watching Growling Sidewinder for some time. Seems to really know his stuff. Seems he's started tooling around in FC just at the right time to help me decide to take the plunge. Now all I need is a bunch of patient mates to help me learn the ropes. Managed to take off, land, and shoot down a few drones in the Spad 13.C1. That's the extent of my FC experience so far.
