Found a link to a simHQ post over on JG1's forum that is pretty interesting...

(here's the SimHQ post)

S! all

My squad LeOs.K are proud to present a new dedicated dogfight server.

The server has software made by a Russian fellow Vladimir Lukianovich. It features an advanced system of registration and stats. All maps are automatically generated by server. The outcome of played mission effects the next map played. The planesets seem quite matched now, exept there is not a flyable VVS bomber besides the TB3 - this is of course not our fault...

There is a lot of flak at every airfield and at gound targets - this will hopefully make vulching difficult and force pilots to actually fight, destroying ground targets is difficult also.

The pilots will gain points and their rank will determine which planes they may or may not fly, e.g. I as a Flieger am not allowed to always fly a late model Stuka, but I have to take a B2 model.

Registration to the server is compulsory, also one has to register his/her side, switching sides results to kick from server. Please note that it may take a few minutes after registration before database is updated before one may fly on the server.

The server is accessible via Hyperlobby, ASE and IP. Stats/registration server addresses are:

I followed the links in the message to their site(s). The stats display for this is top notch stuff... It's a registration-only (pilots must be registered) dogfight server with some sort of detailed stats program running in the background, constantly updated via databse to their site.

Looks interesting... might be a good way to practice bomber/jabo ops in a "live" evironment.

Here's the posted Rules for their server:

http://212.116.37.18/cgi-bin/readme.htm

Rules of the server:

1. Every pilot must be registered before he/she can take part in the game

2. The objective is to win the mission by meeting one of the goals,

those may be number of destroyed planes/killed pilots, number of ground targets or survival till time limit

3. Every pilot counts, so reaching friendly lines before bailing/ditching is recommended,

usually planes are more numerous than pilots

4. The winning side recieves a bonus when the next mission is generated

5. No exessive foul language or whining

6. Chute killing is not recommended, any pilot doing may be despised by others

7. Vulching is allowed, but it has been made challenging

Formulas:

PENALTY=(died+crashed/2+ditches/4-bail/4+captured/2-escaped)*10+tkof-tkon

fighter=(It is biased the enemies-It is biased the friends*2)*10-PENALTY/2

bomber=((ESAIR+ETANK*3+ECARS+EART+EAAA*2+EWAG+ESHIP*10)-(FSAIR+FTANK*3+FCARS+FART+FAAA*2+FWAG+FSHIP*10))*2-PENALTY/2

overal=fighter+bomber

Effect=Overal/takeoff

As the rules above state, you *must* be registered via their web site to enter the server (you'll be bounced right out if you're not). The server is listed in HL as BajaMaja.

The server is scripted, and is set for FULL REAL, with icons set to .5km (for friendlies anyway, I never saw an enemy plane). No externals, no padlock.

Being that this is a Finnish server/game, pings are a bit high (mine was in the mid 160 range). There is a ping-kick in place, but I seen some Russian guys flying with pings around 500 and they weren't kicked.

Maps run about 2 hours each before changing. Considering the map active this morning was rather large (Smolensk) it takes a ling time to get to the main target area (grid s10 had main industrial tgt for blue, home base was F6). There are many airfields available to fly from, all of which are *heavily* defended by AAA. As are all the targets, both tanks/trucks and industrial targets.

Some aircraft are limited from use until you achieve rank, those are listed in the briefing, in somewhat poor English. You will be kicked if you haven't achieved rank and attempt to fly an unauthorized aircraft type. (I know... I tried a Ju-87D3 and it kicked me). Aircraft available are basically the ones in the 1942 or earlier category.

(now I'm late for work.... gotta run!)

Is your in game name set to the same as your registered name?

I got on this afternoon with no problem.

@ Taco: Reaper's got a good point... if your in-game name (your pilot persona in IL-2) has a nickname spelled differently (punctuation, capitalization, all of it) than what you registered on the BajaMaja site with, you'll get bounced off the server.

Your in-game name is the "callsign" portion of your persona. If yours is "WW_Taco" in the game, then that's the name you need to register on the site with. Not "wwtaco" or "WWTaco". I'm not entirely sure if your Hyper-Lobby name has to be precisely the same as well... I think your HL name shouldn't matter...

@ Reaper: Yessir... this would be a good training ground, especially for mud-movers. With the stats thing going, you can easily keep track of your success. Considering how tough the AAA is, high-alt, loose formations and multiple directions of ingress to the target at one time are key to survival.

That mission I flew this morning escorting a single He-111 to the main industrial target was flat-ass boring until we got to the target area. Then the heavens opened up with flak like you see in the pictures of WW2 8th AF raids on Berlin... THICK!

Registered with no problems Tuesday afternoon. Stats program looks interesting.

Flew solo He-111 H2 (4 SC250's) to bomb factories in Livny Tuesday night. Navigation was a real challenge, but Tharn's nosegunner tip makes all the difference. Easily reached 6k meters. Route due east from western base to edge of map then due north to just east of Livny.

No brief or photos of target, so first pass lineup was hosed...aborted to north...lot of flak hits + fuel leak which quickly sealed. Second pass, successfully dropped on large factory complex. Script said 'direct hit on target.' Heavy flak. Egressed to north then east. Too busy to watch bombs explode. Flak destroyed elevator control + fuel leak which quickly sealed. Flew home on rudder and ailerons. Absolutely no elevator control in descent. Elected to have crew bailout near base. All survived, but one He-111 H2 destroyed.

Very few participants (3 to 4). Saw no enemy or friendly aircraft during entire mission. Stats did not reflect that I flew after I landed. Not sure when stats appear. Entered code "
All in all, great practice map. Navigating requires intense concentration from me. Look away for very long and I'm a goner! (DR was always a challenge....gimme my INS!!! LOL!)

Well flying in CoT sure has sharpened up my map reading skills in IL2FB it was 2300 Server time and dark but some moonlight.

Tharn and I found the column - I shot up a `tank' (AAA) and I took out a bunch of vehicles but took myself out too because of the wrong bomb delay setting. :P /applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=%7BSMILIES_PATH%7D/icon_redface.gif&key=b30c314ea10c72f3d32953a265be0c32a1435b472bb99313e5e3656e23efc144">

I respawned and flew back and found the column right away. There were still 3 AAA blasting away which were nicely spaced along the line of vehicles. /applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=%7BSMILIES_PATH%7D/icon_twisted.gif&key=76870aa9df6931b692ccc9ef4c7472a7834d1d9dfc6a76eccadd1fa39c0df891"> This allowed me to line on the vehicles even in the low light. I dropped my bomb (SC1800) with the proper delay and turned away. I got at least 3 vehicles but lost my airlerons to the AAA. I was well underway to getting home when the server tossed me saying I was in the wrong airplane. Ju87 D5. :P :P :P :P I was sure that I hadn't taken something I wasn't supposed to - the English is a little challenging but ....

I checked out Sturmolog - I got 14 `Trucks' and the tank from before. Sure wish the server hadn't tossed me.

Something's wrong with the stats program.

I flew a very long mission ~ 2.0 hours +. I flew a mission on factories as briefed and successfully dropped on target, but the stats say that I never flew.

Wonder what gives here? :?

Same here Natops... the mission I was on with Wringer - my sturmolog has me for 2 tanks and 9 trucks... all with 1 bomb- and at night no -less..
that can't be right--- maybe 1 tank and a few trucks is more like it..
then when i went to the website - I was posted at being on the 'red; team.
I checked today and I'm back to Blue but wringer is now on 'red'//
and both of us aren't counted as having flown at all...
unfortunate cause I'd really like to see the WW's making a mark on there.

Wringer did a great job at getting us to the target area...I couldn't see jack S**T but it was fun and a bit nerve racking- especially on takeoff...

Just went to the baja maja forum before I leave for work and they were saying that they had a crash the other night and have updated somethings, and in a couple of weeks they are going to reset stats anyway- so
consider this a beta..It will be fixed shortly...

Taco: you're registered twice because you're listed once as Red (Russian) and once as Blue (German). I think... :?

Tharn hit it about the server being wonky, as posted on their forum. Meant to relay that when I seen it, but got side-tracked. The server is on a different machine/host now. Good to hear the stats will be re-set though... gives everyone playing on the server a chance to start fresh. /applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=%7BSMILIES_PATH%7D/icon_biggrin.gif&key=64cd7b7a0036899205810ec0a5b90ed7121d5889dd92733089c47c9758b7f4ae">

Each map plays for about two hours as currently set. so those long missions may be too long for the time the map is up. It may be good to request the time be lengthened or map rotation trigger set to percentage of targets killed...

Here's the BajaMaja server FAQ, as posted on their forum:

1. Q: What is BajaMaja?
A: BajaMaja is a dogfight server running on Daemon tool and a 3rd party application that creates maps and keeps a log of pilot´s and events that are happening in the server.

2. Q: How do I join the BajaMaja server?
A: You need to register your pilot at http://212.116.37.18/cgi-bin/reg.htm then you need to join the server from Hyperlobby or through the game with IP address: 212.116.37.18 and pls be patient it takes a bit longer than normal to load the missions.

3. Q: I get in the server but the mission will not start loading!!
A: Please be patient. It takes a bit longer for the mission to load then in a normal dogfight server.

4. Q: Hey! WTF!! I registered and, I still get kicked from the server!!
A: To this there might be few reasons. Did you do any of the following:
* Idle too long
* chose a red airfield when your pilot is registered to blue, chose a blue airfield when your pilot is registered to red
* chose a plane that is for higher ranking officers only
* piss off the admin Wink
If you answered yes to any of these then you earned your kick, if not try to register your pilot again and wait for 5mins before trying to enter the server. If you still experience problems please report your problem at forum.

5. Q: What affects the map rotation?
A: There are few things that affect when maps change and what, the next map is like.
* There is certain amount of planes and pilots on each side and after they are gone the side that still has planes wins and a new map will load. Amount of fighters and bombers are separate. Right now planes classified as bombers are:

[blue_bomber_type]
He-111H-2 0
Ju-87D-3 0
He-111H-6 0
Fw-190F-8 0
Ju-87G-1 0
Bf-110G-2 0
Ju-87D-5 0
Ju-87B-2 0

[red_bomber_type]
Il-2M_Late 0
Il-2_1941_Early 0
TB-3_4M-17 0
TB-3_4M-34R_SPB 0
Il-2_1941_Late 0
Il-2_1940_Late 0

Il-2T 0
Il-2M_Early 0
Il-2I 0
TB-3_4M-34R 0
Il-2_3 0
Il-2_1940_Early 0
Il-2_M3 0
* There is certain amount of ground targets for both sides and by destroying enemy ground targets your side will win and a new map will load.
* There is a 3hour time limit. After 3hours if there is no winner the same map will load
again.
* If your side wins the frontline moves to your advantage and if your side ( or the opponent ) wins twice in a row the map will change. So every map will be played at least twice with small modifications in the frontline etc.

Map rotation is specified in text file where you tell map order. For example I want to play three maps and order is like this:
[next_template]
Smolensk
Moscow
Stalingrad
War begins in Moscow (map on center of list) and if blue wins enough missions then next map is Smolensk, if red wins then it's Stalingrad. So when blue team wins we move up on list and if red team wins we move down. When we reach other end of list war begins again from center?

Here is the current map list and order
[next_template]
crimea
moscow
kursk
stalingrad
balaton
smolensk
kuban
leningrad
berlin

6. Q: What is this rank thing and how does it work?
A: Rank is the measure of your success and if high enough, it gives you a chance to fly better planes that the lower ranking officers are allowed to.
You have three lives and after you have died three times your rank will go back to square 1 and your statistics too. The server keeps also your statistics for all flights and you can see both your “live stats” and “all stats” in your pilot profile.
Ranks will be updated daily at 6.00am if admins will wake up so early Wink

7. Q: Are there any rules in BajaMaja?
A: Well some:
* do not flash lights when you are in a fight
* do not use foul language excessively
* do not disconnect on purpose if you are in a fight or you are being chased
* Vulching is allowed but it has been made difficult and if you start doing it often well… you get a certain kind of reputation. ( well if it is a really sweet situation then go for it Wink )
* Being too much of a tight-ass is strictly forbidden. This is a game and should be fun for everyone so good manners, good humour and good sportsmanship are valued elements in a pilot.

8. Q: Well I really hate this and that in BajaMaja can you change these things?
A: Yes and no. Some things we can change and some we can not. If general opinion of pilots demands for some kind of change then we will seriously think about that. Good place to give ideas or just for posting your opinion is the forum area. Please do remember that we are only end users of this software and we don’t have the source code for it.

9. Q: what are the in game commands?
A: here is the list of console commands:

PS. This program we are using is written by Sergey Uolis and Vladimir Lukianovich so all the glory and praises belong to them not us
