For Sensei

Recommended Posts

You know, it's pretty dang hard to find worthwhile aviation artwork related to, or containing, Messerschmitt 110 *day* fighters. :?

Plenty of stuff with 110 night fighters... well, not plenty, but more than there is for day fighters.

Anyway... here's a first try at a sig-pic for ya with a 110 (Mothership) theme. I've got a request in over at ScreenShotArt.com for a new pic dedicated to the 110, so hopefully I'll have something more to work with for you.

...and of course I now realize I grabbed the wrong size pic to work from, so it's smaller than intended. D'Oh! #-o

That is very nice. I wonder how an A-20 would fair in a dog fight with a 110 if both pilots had the same skills. I know i will get some good comparisons here.

Thanks Hap /applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=%7BSMILIES_PATH%7D/icon_biggrin.gif&key=64cd7b7a0036899205810ec0a5b90ed7121d5889dd92733089c47c9758b7f4ae">

I'd say the 110 pilot would have the advantage... The A-20 is first and foremost a bomber, while the 110 is a fighter. Of course they both served as night fighters, and we know the A-20 is fairly nimble for an aircraft of it's size. Might be an interesting duel.

Some A-20s equipped with radar equipment were redesignated as P-70s and were used as night fighters until replaced in 1944 by the P-61 "Black Widow". The P-70 was given the name Nighthawk, though this name was rarely used. A further variation of the A-20 was the F-3A, which was the photo recon variant. The Havoc was known as the Boston Mark III to the British (who also used it in various theaters), and as the DB-7 to the French.

The British first used the modified A-20 as a night fighter (Havoc II) and met with some success. The AAF followed suit and modified an A-20 (S/N 39-735) by installing radar and four 20mm cannon in a fuselage pod. The glass nose section of the A-20 was simply painted black in a P-70.

I want the one with the four 20mm in the nose :pistoles:

Me110 outclasses the A20. Firepower is much superior and she has better top speed and turning ability. An A-20 can be troublesome if they get the jump on you but even your tail gunner can hurt them.

A "good" A-20 pilot might fight a mediocre 110 pilot to a standstill but all it takes for the 110 is a few brief moment on tracking a target to kill it. Now, An A-20 can keep a bad Me110 pilot missing shots and might get a lucky head shot with it's gunner but more likely a wingman or escort will jump in.

On WarClouds my best A-20 run was 4 A-20s going after some ships. I jumped them in my 110 and bagged all four while taking minimal damage.

I fear the gunners on a B25 more and 2 P-38s are a real problem.

Something new for Sensei... Sort of a training run for some new-ish doo-dads I've been playing with.

Kinda cool... came out a bit larger than I thought it would though.

Wouldn't ya know it... after all this time I find there's at least one good screen-shot done of a rocket armed kette (three ship formation) of Bf-110's over at ScreenShotArt.com:

(may require logging in to view... it's in Graf's "Gallery" if you have to go through the menus to find it)

OT a bit: Graf is easily my favorite screen-shot artist. 8) /applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=%7BSMILIES_PATH%7D/icon_clap.gif&key=b3c3b69dc821e094f8e6a428b61d77ca8c19db84efe7e1e7ef7215326ff9b4bd">
