Notice to Airmen

8/31/19 - Tips for Saturday Black September Server Test

When: 1700 UTC (convert to your local time zone)

Where:  Black September Test Server or similar named (Flying Circus Flugpark)

How:  There will not be a password for this server test mission (there will be passwords during the campaign so you will need to get in habit of using Teamspeak  to get password and flight assignments (see Teamspeak address below).

Rules will be posted later this weekend after the server test mission.

60 Minutes Prior to Mission -

Check first post in the FC Black September thread for new Notices to Airmen and review previous notices and follow instructions.

Make sure you set up a user account and register on the event server parser http://stats.jasta5.org:8000/en/ .

30 Minutes Prior to Mission -

1.       Meet early in the Red or Blue Briefing channels 30 minutes early on Jasta 5 Teamspeak (jasta5.teamspeak3.com or visit the following for more help https://jasta5.org/Jagdstaffeln_5/red_baron_j5_communications_room.htm).

a.       Mission assignments will generally be made on a first come first served basis anytime starting 30 minutes prior to mission start.

b.       If you can't join the Briefing channel because you arrived later than everyone else, look at the other team and see if they have room in their briefing room

                                                               i.      If yes, consider switching sides, OR

ii.      Wait in the Reserve channel until a space opens up shortly after the mission start (pilots will crash and die on take-off and shortly thereafter; don't worry).

iii.      It is possible that there will be reserves at the start of the first mission when everyone shows up at once but reserves will get assigned quickly as pilots crash, die, are captured.

2.       Pay attention to Ops staff officers (black icon to right of their name).

Remember:

Fly > die > move to reserve Teamspeak channel > 20 minute death penalty.  if there are no reserves waiting their turn to enter game, THEN you can be a backseat gunner in a two seater during 20-minute death penalty > fly > die > repeat cycle.

Think about overall mission objectives and your role in supporting or accomplishing those; its not just about finding a enemy plane and attacking it!

This initial Flying Circus campaign is all a work in progress, as is Flying Circus itself!  We are ALL learning together about Flying Circus while hopefully having fun together.  If there are technical difficulties, please be patient with everyone (especially the event organizers) and loiter on TS and make new friends while it gets sorted out.  Some things will just get fixed for the next weeks mission.  Please report bugs on the event thread.

Please remember that while it is possible for the server to have difficulties, it is much more likely your own connection choke points or computer limitations or a problem with the mission that are causing lag and other problems.  If everyone is experiencing the same thing, then it is not likely at your end and you should say something to Matthias or Baeumer on Teamspeak (or a Jasta 5 pilot on TS who can get a message to one or the other of them).

Play fair and have fun.

Currently Valid Preliminary Pilots Assignments:

NOTE:  Mercenaries are asked to choose a team AT TIME OF ENTRY TO SERVER in order to balance sides.  You will not be allowed to change sides later during the same mission!

8/27/19 - 70 pilots indicate plans to participate in Black September.

8/26/19 - next Saturday August 31, 1700UTC practice mission and server test.  Recommend players connect on teamspeak at Jasta5.teamspeak3.com to coordinate and share info as there are specific mission objectives to understand.

8/25/19 - sneak peek completed...few minor bugs identified and fixed.  All in all successful with fun air fights and ground attack missions.

8/25/19 - please register on the parser here:. http://stats.jasta5.org:8000/en/

Test over for me right now.  Flew Entente.  The Central side had overwhelming numbers as usual, but we acquitted ourselves well.

Brisfit FII was the majority FIII were  in very short supply (1 per airfield). Bombs where available were Coopers only because “the Halb only had 6 lb bombs so they could only have 5 lb). The majority of the Brisfits were outfitted as recon (yes they got it working to a point) fighter hybrids and a few bombers.  No overhead Lewis guns and dual Lewis for rear gunner restricted to f3 only

the Sopwith camels were designated bombers(?)

map is small and intense  no outside views, no map icon, full engine mgmt on.  Central flew in staffels having up to 7 fighters against one bomber (give Zeus dual Lewis guns and they would have been in big trouble)

Central likes to form up on airfield rather than in air causing enormous panic when our recon planes took and side trip and surprised then on the ground... if I had bombs.....

It will be interesting to see it all on the Lapino map, sounds like pilots will be busy.... I like full management, takes the guess work out of what's adjustable when moving controls. The auto stuff messes me up, is working, broken, auto, what going on here...

The stats are a little wonky, I showed 5 kills in game and stats show 3...  reported

On the stats page:

Attention! Algorithms collection statistics IL2 stats differs from statistics in-game. As a consequence of these statistics will not coincide with the game.
