WWGeezer
So my new rig does not have a CD Drive in it. These have become somewhat obsolete, but some of my key applications ( like Lightroom & Quicken ) where still on CD. Also some family archive stuff is on CD. So very occasional use, but still needed. I started looking at buying a cheap external drive and they run about $25 and they are cheap. Pretty much 1/4" thick laptop CD drives in boxes. It was bugging me because I have a perfectly good full size blue ray DVD burner in my old machine. Found many vendors that sold cases for salvaging laptop CD drives but nothing for full size drives. Than I ran into a product by WEme that is an adapter that plugs into the back of the CD drive with a dual plug that provides sata power and sata data connection and converts it to a 3.0 USB cable. Comes with a convenience power outlet. Very cool product. Plugged everything in, spun right up and Lightroom short cut is on my desk top now. Saved the dinosour!

WWSittingduck
and now you have a HD docking station too.... they make those for IDE drives also...handy when you are praying what you want to find might be on that drive that has been kicking around in the draw for 10 years.
