WWSittingduck
suppose if this is the worse thing that impacts me from all of what is going on I should consider myself very lucky. Was seriously thinking of going ahead on a new build. Too bad most of what I want is out of stock, and from just talking to Newegg, is probably not going to be available any time soon. Geezer, you should consider yourself lucky. Not only did you get your build done, but VR headsets are next to impossible to find.
WWSoarfeat
Yeah Duck things definitely could be worse. Interesting from what you posted I went to pcpartpicker to check some things out and all they had listed for some good build guides was in stock. You may be interested with their build guide because they show what builds they did that had excellent compatibility. Here is a link to an example pcpartpicker build guide
WWSittingduck
thanks robby... actually so far it may have saved me some money. Had newegg had the cooler in stock, it was 130.00. It was 70.00 on amazon, so snagged it. Am not looking at a fancy case, but the one I am looking at on newegg (on backorder) was 109.00. Everywhere else it was 250.00 which is hard to understand. anyways, i back ordered it with newegg, so am locked in at the 109.
WWBrinson
What headset are you looking for? If I had to do it over again, I'd tkae a hard look at the HP Reverb. It is in stock... And on sale. https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-reverb-virtual-reality-headset-professional-edition?jumpid=cp_r12139_us/en/psg/vr_reverb_headset/products/reverb-shop-now
WWSittingduck
I have a Plantronics Gamecom p80 wireless. Newegg was selling them for 9.99. Had I had an idea how good I thought they would be, i would have snagged all i could. By the time I got my first one they were sold out. What's driving me nuts is the video card. am pretty set on gtx 2070 super from asus, but it is out of stock. I went to the asus site to look for an alternative, and it's rather unbelivable...there have to be at least 25 different models of pretty much the same card. They have ROG Strix, then an EVO line, and another line,,,and each have about 7 or 8 2070's in each one... but....think i am going to hold off a bit until i can put my finger on whether or not the world is coming to an end before I but too much stuff.... WWSandMan
I've been looking at a new build as well. Also looked at some pre-built boxes, since my desire for a sturdy and robust machine puts me at or above the cost of the pre-built machines. But I despise proprietary limitations (some high-end stuff looks like you'll never be able to do much with it three years down the road.) Something else I'm looking at is a new monitor. I'm not anywhere close to getting into VR, so a solid monitor is a necessity. My current Planar 27" is okay, but is very weak on showing darks/blacks, and is somewhat innaccurate in color display. I want depth and accuracy. But I need to balance the desire for very good color reproduction with a monitor enough for my various sims (flight, racing and land combat.) I'm about 60% decided on a BenQ 27" model (rated well as both a gaming monitor and a photo monitor, on various hardware review sites, but only has 60hz refresh - which doesn't really bother me.) Another I was looking at is also a BenQ model, but larger. And more expensive.... but, 35" super-wide screen, 100hz, 4ms refresh, and meets sRGB color standards, but 8bit color, not 10bit, and other minor issues. Hmmm... WWSittingduck
am kicking around options for the video card. the 2070 super i was looking at (think the same one geezer got) is pretty much unavailable. 2070 is selling for 585.00, the 2080 super is not that much more expensive...am seeing them as low as 704.00. what seems to separate the price's on the other 2080's (and the 2070's) is the aviailable ports. The less expensive have only 1 hdmi, but maybe 3 display port 1.4 ( I don't even know what this is)... another difference is open gl4.5 vs open gl4.0 support so...if people were in the market for a video card, would they settle for one that had only 1 hdmi port, and would they settle for one that supported opengl 4.0 but not opengl 4.
WWSandMan
As I understand it, DisplayPort is a better option to move image data from the GPU to the monitor. But I haven't looked real close. As for OpenGL versions, I guess it depends on your usage... If you play any games that use 4.5, get a video card that supports it.
WWFawlty
Ya from what I remember, when I went to a g-sync monitor I had to go display port because hdmi didn't support refresh over 60 hz at 1440 res. or something like that. I can run this up to 144hz https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824260333 It's a lower end gsync monitor but good value for the price

WWChunk
I would say yes. It has a good refresh rate, response time and free sync. Furthermore, the 1440p resolution, while not 4K, will give you very good clarity with way better performance.
WWSandMan
That Best Buy listing is quite a bit less than on Dell's own site... And is quite a bit less than several monitors I've been looking at. Not to mention a month faster on delivery... Two weeks to my local Best Buy store, versus well into July for delivery from Dell. Grr... Pulling the trigger, and buying a DP 1.4 cable. Should have the new monitor June 9.

Grr... Pulling the trigger, and buying a DP 1.4 cable. Should have the new monitor June 9. Okay, so now the reality of life as a Best Buy customer is catching up to me. The initial email that was sent to me with an "estimated store pick-up date" has missed the mark. Yet to be seen by how much. I stopped by the local BB store, fully intent to pick up my shiny new 32" curved 1440P monitor. Not top of the world stuff, but far better than the ten year old monitors I'm using now. Problem one... Since the initial email proposing today as the pick-up date, I've heard nothing from BB. When I tried calling my local store this afternoon to verify my monitor is there, I got 20 minutes worth of automated menu bullshit, all of which directed me to the BB web site. My account on the web site shows my order as "in process, scheduled for store pickup TODAY!" Okay, great. Guess I'll drive to the other side of town and see what they say. Problem two... On arrival, I go through the little check-in procedure for curb-side pickup (thanks a lot to the monkey-fucking assholes for creating that little gem, but I digress), which went smoothly enough. I pull up near the indicated stopping cone to await word. Not even a minute goes by, and a kid in a mask approaches my car, asks several questions so he can pull up my order. "Have you got the email saying your item is ready?" ... No, I've just got the one email saying it was estimated for pickup today, but nothing else. Young man gets houghty, says "well, you'll have to wait for that email showing your item is here, then come back. We don't have it yet." He turns to walk away, obviously proud to have disposed of another irritating customer interrupting his Pokemon Go session. But I stop him by asking if he can let me know what the status of my order is. He turns around, says "just like your order info says, it's in process." And tries to walk away. I ask a little louder, "any chance you can give me a better estimate on when I might expect to see the item I've ordered?" ... "Nope, I don't have that information." Wait, what? You mean you can't track my order at all? "Nope." Now I'm pissed. You mean a chain that has been built up around technology can't track a single-item order? Apparently not. He mentioned they've been having all kinds of issues with their computer systems. Now I'm livid... Because I can't cancel the order without paying a re-stocking fee, even if the damn thing is stocked 80 miles away. And they've already pulled money from my account. And I just NOW received a text saying the order is delayed, and if they can't get it by next Tuesday, they'll cancel it. I'm hoping they refund my entire price, because I'm not fond of giving over $40 in taxes just for the fun of it. I'm officially on a BOYCOTT BESTBUY rant. More timely communication with the customer and I would have been just fine... I get it, Covid fucks everything up, it's a simple excuse that EVERYBODY is using these days. How about communicating that delay to me PRIOR to my estimated pick-up date?? Makes too much sense, maybe? Don't visit their stores for anything but to fill their garbage bins with dead fish. But leave one bin empty... the remainder of the dead fish are on back order.
WWCraven
Yup, that's a bit of a rant. I could go one myself about DHL and their lousy everything but I don't want to expend the energy describing in detail why my order took 1 day to get to the US from China then sat around in limbo for the next 3 weeks before suddenly appeared on my doorstep, nope, not gonna go there
WWSandMan
I'm just baffled by the fact he had no way to even look up the order and check it's actual status. Has it even been manufactured? Packaged? Shipped to a distribution point? What happens if this was a time-sensitive purchase? Gotta admit I like ordering from Adorama for my photo gear. They know how to communicate, and how to get stuff to their customers. If I get my money back from BB, I'll go back to buying from Adorama. Maybe not the best price in town, but their customer service has been great.

It's no so much you didn't get what you were suppose to get as you lost a moment you should have had. sorry bout all the problems sandy.
WWSandMan
Turns out they only put a hold on my account for the money, they didn't actually pull it. But the note I got from Best Buy regarding my non-arriving monitor didn't show up until 40 minutes *after* the store closed. On the day the part was supposed to be at that store. Not a single whisper before that. Adorama had an issue with a flash unit I bought, turns out their inventory was off. As soon as they discovered the issue, they sent me an email describing the inventory issue and how long they expected my part to be delayed. The day they got the part in (a day earlier than they had expected), I got another email saying it was in and being shipped. That's how you handle out-of-stock situations... communicate with the customer.

WWChunk
That’s a cool monitor, but I don’t know if my current PC could push that many more pixels on the UWQHD format. Also, it’s 80 bucks more expensive on that link, and are you experiencing any ghosting with the 8ms response time? That’s kinda high for that caliber of monitor. It’s nice and big though! WWSandMan
Side rant... Even Canon screws the pooch occasionally. I ordered a specific printer from the Canon store, direct. Same price as all the online retailers, so why not go the the source? I happened to have bought some other stuff while I was there. The other items showed up, but the printer hadn't. No big deal, it showed as "back ordered" when I ordered it. I happened to check my order status, to see if the printer was even ready ... and it showed as "delivered". Ummm... HELLLO! I don't have a printer in my possession! So I called Canon... a few minutes of "answer this" and "say that" and I get a real live human being. Who speaks English. He's a bit perturbed by the web site saying one thing ("shipped/arrived") and his order status saying "back ordered". He checks availability in every Canon authorized dealer in North America. Nope. None. Zip. Nada. So he digs further... Next batch from Canon/Japan is due in .... (drum roll) .... Late September. I canceled my Canon printer order, thanked the nice fellow for getting almost as peeved as me (that was worth the 15 minute phone call, actually) and turned to Adorama. I'll have an Epson printer by next Tuesday with photo printing capabilities almost as nice as the Canon model I wanted, with the additional benefits of a scanner and copier, for a few bucks less. I'll lose out on 10x13 photo printing ability, but that's what Kinko's is for, damn it.
