WWGeezer
I was going to write a long, perhaps personal post and have decided to keep it brief. My daughter and son in law have a 5 month baby at home. Both have significant careers and job demands. They are both working from home most days. In the current environment they can not get daycare or a nanny. They can barely get a phone call returned. They have negotiated with each other and their employers that they each get 20 hours of meeting time a week, and they have to schedule the zoom calls around each other so one of them can be taking the lead with the baby. No question they are living on the edge, high stress on keeping this whole dance together. My daughter is calm about this all, but so serious, you can hear the pressure in her voice. I called her yesterday and it was hard to hear it. Balancing two careers with a baby has always been a challenge, but this virus has added an almost impossible level of complexity to family life for young families I feel strongly that we are witnessing the forging of the next "Great Generation". A put a prayer out there for all the families, singles, young, old.....that are navigating all this. Can only hope that it will get better soon. 3
WWSoarfeat
Nice post Geezer !! I believe there will be a sort of renaissance in regards to the work environment and other priorities as it applies to the family as a result of this pandemic. I also feel so sorry for young adults trying to establish professional careers. I had received a delivery from Amazon, and in talking with the delivery fellow found out he had been hired on with American Airlines for training as a pilot however has been dropped from the program because of the pandemics affect on the airlines. So for now he is delivering Amazon packages. I hope he gets back in the flight program, I gave him a big tip !!!
WWPlague
Bad stress out there, too much for everyone, especially for working people. We had a proposal on the the last ballot to limit payday loan interest rates to 36%, I think it was. I have a long time friend saying, "If you are stupid enough to not manage your money and need a loan to pay your rent, etc, then I have no smypathy for them". Hes a friend who wont listen to other opinions, so I just change the subject. His parents left him 100k when they died, so he's not hurting for money, he is in the end stages of COPD, so has his own stress, but no empathy for others. Many reasons to have to go to the shark tanks to get rent money, losing a job and a spouse who walked out and your vehicle just quit running. Whats the old sage? Walk a mile in someones shoes. Not giving a free pass to people doing hard time because their old man beat them daily. Fight the good fight, do not go easily into the dark night. Oh, by the way, TP is gone off the shelf and back room at Walmart where I live. Hope things dont get ugly again. Walmart in my area locked up all the "nice" guns theys still sell and had on display, into the back room 2 days before the election, probably still are off the sales floor until the fear of the looting by non contributing zeros subsides. Never gonna be 'normal' again, just have to live different lives. Help one another.
WWSandMan
It's going to get bad this time. Buckle up, Buttercup. Wear a mask, wash your hands, stay the hell away from other people. Try not to go stir crazy. Be prepared.
WWSoarfeat
Agree with you Sandman, I would also add, install one of these on your toilet in regards to toilet paper----- I did, they actually work great and pretty easy to install( family loves it as well, it's a game changer ), Bidet

WWGeezer
Sort of cute when you are watching the graphic intro to House of Cards.....very unsettling when it is hanging from a flag pole.
WWChunk
Yep, couldn’t disagree with that statement anymore than I currently do, but the 1st Amendment is something sacred. More COVID mandates up here in WA state today. I’m done with this bullshit.
WWDubya
I get it, and sympathize... Upside down flag is not so much political (though it can be used as such) but rather a distress signal. And that is how I choose to interpret that display. It's a call for help. The USA is in distress, with multiple nation-wide issues.
WWSittingduck
funny how people go about their business and focus on all that is wrong around them, without paying any attention what others might be going thru...(and this is NOT a jab at any posts here....) Nicaragua has a Cat 5 hurricane bearing down on them, less than 2 weeks since Eta hit basically the same area. Just as it was impossible for people not involved with the west coast fires to imagine what the people that WERE involved were going thru, one can only imagine what is going on, and what will be going on in Nicaragua the next few weeks. I know things are bad here, but damn........
WWGroucho
Powerful stuff guys. Covid-19 came to my school Thursday and to my class. My kids are out for two weeks. My buddy’s dad died from it last week. Only 72. He had dementia, and he had to go in long term care. He contracted it there. It’s everywhere in Toronto. 503 cases today. Met a man yesterday, who really believes there is too much government control over Covid. We need more.
WWGeezer
Yeah, gal at work tested positive this week, about three workstations away. Thankfully she was out all last week working from home and I am home this week. Not someone I interact with very often. Feel like we keep pulling the slot machine and waiting to hit the jackpot. New rules for CDPH say mask 100% of the time when you are not at home. Yikes

I agree completely Groucho, there seems to be a lot of people living in a alternate universe these days.
WWGeezer
Speaking of alternate universes, no flying for me this week. Knee deep in vaccine storage, implementation and distribution. Multiple "Code Green" emergency meetings. Lots of optimism about the performance of these vaccines. Anyone got a spare -80 freezer in their garage? I hate to say it, but until everyone gets on board with the seriousness of this, we ain't seen nothing yet----sadly !! On another note --- I hope the US is going to reach out and offer emergency aid and help to Honduras, Nicaragua being hammered by Cat 5 hurricane----

WWSandMan
I'd suggest liquid nitrogen, but that may be too cold (roughly -230 F). Listened to the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, give a speech on Public Radio today. He does that fairly often giving Covid updates. He had several other speakers with him, including the CEO of Allina Medical (a large medical group competing with the Mayo system). What this lady had to say was scary. And to hear a CEO of a billion dollar medical group offer to beg for everyone to please mask up, was sobering. And she admitted that over 800 Allina personnel were currently out of action due to Covid. That's 800 care-givers in need of care themselves. She admitted knowledge that the Mayo group was currently recording over 900 personnel out of action. This is when there are thousands a day coming up positive, all the hospital beds are full and they are actively triaging Covid patients. Triage == Those who have the best chance of living get a bed. Shit's gotten real, people. Mask up. Stay distanced. Don't congregate. Enjoy a quiet and solitary Thanksgiving. WASH YOUR FRIGGIN' HANDS. OFTEN.
