WWGeezer
My rig has been sooo quiet that I have noticed one fan making a very quiet sound that was not there before. Still running, not loud just a noise that wasn't there before. Should I care? Guess I could open up the box and try to get at it with an electric duster and see if I can get it to clear. WWCephas
It is always good to keep it clean but if that does not fix it a few drops of penetrating oil can do wonders, but that just buys time. It would be better to see if you can find a replacement fan mod. You also did not specify which fan, if it is a CPU or GPU I would look to replace. CPU fans are easy to swap, Video cards can be a bit of challenge to find a compatible fan. They generally come in standard sizes, but finding one with the right connector can be a problem sometimes. (or removing the massive heatsink shrouds they come with these days) A Power supply fan is always easy to find a replacement for even if you might have to splice the power wires. (unlikely) A case fan you can run into the ground with no worries and are the simplest to replace. Speaking of fans, my son just built a new computer and put a massive Noctua CPU heatsink that sported 2 120mm fans and was as big as a small child's head. I hope his motherboard does not crack from the stress load of supporting it. LOL Edited June 26, 2021 by WWCephas
WWGeezer
Pretty sure it is just one of the case fans that came with the box. Will have to get my head down there to make sure. Seems like it would be easy to replace if I needed to. Just impacting my serenity right now.
WWGriphos
Yeah, those are quite easy to replace. A couple of screws and the plug, usually. Usually cheap as well.

WWSandMan
In the heat wave the west is experiencing, doesn't surprise me that your fans are working hard. But yeah, unusual noises or new noises should be hunted down to determine severity. Squeaky wheels, you know. @WWCephas I have one of those Noctua air coolers, not in my current system but was used in my previous system. Presented no problems at all on the Asus motherboard I had. The key of course is that the cooler is mounted long after the motherboard had been firmly mounted to the chassis of the computer. Else yeah, that's a lot of weight a long ways from the board and anchored to a small spot. As for functionality, I had no issues what-so-ever keeping my old i7 2400K cool even while over-clocking. The only issue I had was I could never control the fan speed properly, they ran at the same RPM all the time. But the CPU never reached critical temp. WWDubya
No kidding... Here in PDX, we having record highs with high humidity... a very drippy 117 at my house yesterday. Popcicles and frozen margaritas did not help much. That and our HVAC piddled the floor, so we doing it all old school this week.
WWGriphos
Mid-70s here today. 'Cause rainstorms, of course. Another round coming through as I type. Pretty heavy stuff. Crazy how all the changes have impacted areas in ways I would have never suspected. Central Texas seems to be the lottery winner in climate change so far. Sorry to hear about the HVAC, Dub. Our well house jet pump blew a gasket yesterday evening. Luckily, the well guy I use had a pump on hand. A few weeks ago, none were available anywhere.
