damn, had to brush up on my dos commands for this one....

want to trim down my skins. Was going to start by just moving out the 2k skins, but noticed a lot of them are the skins I use ( Bf109F2_WW-03Winter.dds for example)

I know this is a long list, but which of these skins are we not using anymore.

This is for the f2, but am pretty sure it would ably to all the 109's

Anything that is NOT 4K you can probably delete (they will still be available on the FTP site archive if really needed). So all of the 5592560-sized files are 2K, I personally removed them from my skins folder.

Personal recommendation is to delete the 2K stuff, but you can have whatever skins you want, 2K or 4K. Remember, that if you choose a particular skin, obviously YOU will see it in-game. However, for others to see it, THEY must ALSO have that skin in their folder. That's why HSD is so good, it does it all for you. I have VERY few 2K skins, only those that do not yet have a 4K equivalent (Yak7B?), so if you choose a 2K skin, I would see a generic default in my game, not the skin you chose. If you choose 1 of the 4K skins that have been uploaded to HSD, I would then see the correct skin in my game (since I downloaded them all).

Keeping the 2K skins is TOTALLY up to you though, but they take up a lot of room that could be better used.

That being said, I am just about to load onto my machine the JG51 BF109F2 skins from the archive, so I can see them in-game when they fly on our server and choose their own personal or sqn skin. Once again, 100% optional.

I still use a lot of the 2k skins, for my own aircraft. I keep the HSD stuff up to date also. I'd like to see all my personal skins for various ships be updated to 4k quality, but I'm not going to press for it. I'm rather fond of the 2k skins that have been made for me, so I'm keeping them. Again, it's a personal preference and there is no need for anyone else to do the same.

As a matter of personal preference, I have removed all 2k skins even my own personal skins, from the game.

For the multiple skins I've made of the same AC in Red, Gold, Blue, White flight colors for folks, I've only kept one for each person. I expect that over time the WW Base or Generic skins will replace all previous versions, if there is any interest in the project.

there seem to be a ton of skins that have these formats:

summer_brandnew

summer_weathering.

winter_brandnew

winter_weathering

and then there are the xo/co etc skins

are any pilots using them?

Duck, the majority of those were from Dubya, when he was cranking out variations galore for every conceived possible use. I think it's safe to assume they can be retired without issue.

Looking through the collections ... Yeah, there's a lot of disk space to be recovered by narrowing down the amount of older skins on hand.

Duck, not sure where the the first four skins came from, I didn't do any with those names and I'm pretty sure Dub didn't either, maybe they're part of the JG1 skin pack?

Neither Geezer or myself are using the CO/XO skins, nor do I plan to use them in the future and we have no TO so you can dump those if you wish.

I think the first 4 MAY be from a campaign you did? I have several P51 skins from Lullaby for a Dream, a downloadable campaign, along with several from the various campaigns that I bought

Well...I went down this nightmarish skin rabbit hole. All 2K skins gone, and I had duplicates galore for almost every airframe due to installing tons of skins from before Haluter's came out, and then the naming convention not being standardized. So I cleared out a BUNCH of skins, then went to Haluter's, which is what I'll use exclusively going forward. Downloading all of the ones I want now. It's gonna take awhile...

Why do we need to talk about them? There are no required skins unless we’re doing a memorial service for someone. Unless Craven has a different train of thought, I don’t think we’re going to have mandatory skin packs.

I was under the impression (and one of the reasons I have been unofficially looking after the sqn skins area on the FTP site) was that no skin was EVER going to be mandatory, they are there for the use of any sqn member who wants to include this visual addition to the game.

That being said, all of the current WW 4K skins are on both HSD and catalogued in the FTP vault, and will continue to be duplicated in both places moving forward. IMHO, it is just too easy to get our skins, but they are in no way mandatory. At the last meeting, we toyed with the idea of "generic" skins, Craven put forth a whole hockey sock full of outstanding artwork, which are still awaiting a vote, and of which I am still waiting to get my mitts on (they would have been great for guests to use when flying with us). Clearly, skins are important for some folks, not so much for others, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I'm learning, much to the chagrin of my storage drives, that skins take a sh!t-ton of space (not quite a hockey-sock full, but close) and really need to be managed. HSD does that.

To reiterate, all of the current WW 4K skins are in the vault, and MOST (if not all) are on HSD. Remember it is up to the artist HOW he(she) wants to distribute their work, HSD is one way.

Makes my head hurt to read thru all these, but there is big advantage to have skins for the other folks in your flight, just for communication and coordination. If we get into competitive events guessing we will want skin packs for our squad in tact
