I've heard a lot about Steam for downloading Half Life games, mostly good. I finally downloaded the demo to give it a whirl. So far the Quake demo's were more fun, although the HL physics are better.

What irked me is having to install Steam to play a demo and then that program installed a resident process in my registry and hid it so I could not see it in regedit. MSCONFIG showed it though. It was more than very annoying to get pop-up ads for Valve's Steam products. I think I shall speak with my pocket book and not buy HL2 due to this. It reeks of Sony's rootkit fiasco.

I also downloaded the FEAR demo but it would not install unless I loaded their version of DX9.Xc (can't remember exact version). I do not like to get my DX anywhere but from MS and I have heard several complaints of the FEAR demo DX trashing people's 3D drivers. So there is another product down the drain for me.

I think I shall try to find the Chronicles of Riddick demo, that was supposed to be a really good fps from last year.

Yes, I have been doing more fps gaming than IL2 lately, it's due to me moving mostly. I start moving into the new house this coming Monday and have to be out of the old one right after XMAS.
