WWCephas Posted January 30 Posted January 30 (edited) VR does not work for me for several reasons so I have been a loyal TIR user for a couple decades but in my Linux IL2 excursion I found a Steam based video camera head tracker that may replace TIR in either OS. LookPilot is its name and even with a crappy 640 res 30 fps camera it worked really well once some settings were tweaked (just like TIR). I ordered a much better Webcam which arrived at the last minute last night and it got even better, especially with smoothness as it is 150 fps at 1280 res. I am away for a bit now so I have to wait until I return to test it some more for a final verdict, but I already love the freedom of not needing a headset and cable. The biggest gameplay improvement so far that I have noticed is at the extreme edges of head movement in both directions. TiR 5s LED head clip tends not to track as well on one side when you turn your head as it is mounted on the left. There is a free demo version and the full version is 15 bucks. WWPlague Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Cephas, mind giving us a link to the webcam you bought? I may need something for my 'only fans' soon to be webpage. Yeah, so Ive got to show some skin to make money and live like a king or queen, but Ive got alot of skin to show! The Doctor had a chart with line drawing pictures on it, and he pointed to the "plump", line drawing. He said I should try to get down to "beer belly" drawing description. 1
WWFawlty Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Nice find Cephas, Track ir is one of the reasons I stepped away from flightsims. There's nothing more frustrating than getting into a good dogfight and having your view freeze up and like you VR is not a option. Think I'll give this a shot.
WWCephas Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 Here is the camera I picked. If you go higher on res you give up on framerate. Freelook reports higher than stated speed at 1280 res and 150 fps. ( on USB 3.0) I don't want to fully endorse this program until I have spent more time with it but like I mentioned there is a free demo. OBSBOT Meet SE 1080P 100FPS... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DQ196WLW?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
WWFawlty Posted January 30 Posted January 30 I'll be looking forward to hearing how you make out Cephas. The 2 antique cameras I have won't do it justice so will wait on the multiple purchases.

I left trackir and was using one called aimerxyz. It's also queit possibly a CCP faceial recognition chinese spy equipment but hey, they have to stare at my ugly mug. It only runs under windows and I'm not even sure they are still around but it worked as well as TIR for me and even did eye tracking. I use it for MSFS as I haven't fooled around wit IL2 for awhile so I'd be surprised there aren't others out there. I've also heard of one called Tobii Eye Tracker but I've not used it. Seems to be popular i the DCS world.
WWFawlty Posted January 30 Posted January 30 (edited) Found and tried this for my phone (not LookPilot yet) if you want to forgo buying a webcam. It's available for apple phones as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJctcZRFxSY Update; Lookpilot in conjunction with the phone works great, bought the software Edited January 31 by WWFawlty
WWSandMan Posted February 2 Posted February 2 I've been looking at Tobii for a while, but TIR 5.x is still working for me so not in a hurry to move or try new shit.
